Greptile, a startup that enables engineers to index and search huge codebases using natural language, has raised $4.1 million in initial money.

Lead investor Initialised Capital led the round, with participation from former YC visiting partners Rich Aberman (WePay) and JJ Fliegelman (WayUp) among angel investors.

The money will be used by the business to keep growing both its operations and its growth initiatives. Greptile is an AI-powered codebase expert led by CEO Daksh Gupta. The business has created innovative methods for indexing and searching big codebases that are similar to how seasoned programmers do it: first, by creating a general map or graph of the codebase’s functionality, followed by “command+clicking” to locate the code that addresses the query.

Developers can utilise Greptile’s “codebase-optimized RAG” (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) as an API to incorporate this AI expert into their development tooling, or they can use it as a chatbot to converse with any repository. This API may handle many kinds of tasks, such as updating internal documentation, analysing merge requests, and identifying issues via Sentry alarms.
